Newsletters California Real Estate MagazineIf you have a social media presence, you’re probably already acquainted with the big players: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. Maybe even LinkedIn, YouTube or TikTok. Sure, there are more social platforms out there, but are they really worth exploring when you’re already spending time on the bigger fish?
Well, it depends on your business. But given how crowded the bigger platforms have become, some REALTORS® are finding the lesser-known platforms bring stronger leads, better info and a more robust community. Here are three platforms you may not have a presence on that could help get you more leads.
Nextdoor
Nextdoor is a hyperlocal social network, meaning all connections are neighborhood-specific. According to Nick Brinkerhoff, the platform’s communications manager, Nextdoor’s focus on neighborhoods gives REALTORS® an opportunity to present themselves to their neighbors as the local real estate expert, sharing targeted tips and advice with an extremely focused audience in order to build their brands.
Through Nextdoor, REALTORS® can become a Neighborhood Sponsor and pay for two custom posts per month to be made visible to users in your targeted ZIP Code.
Reddit
Reddit aggregates news and web content on a vast series of discussion boards. Users can post content and vote on other users’ content, and posts are organized into different boards, called “subreddits,” based on topic.
Joey Marino, moderator and creator of the r/Realtors subreddit — which has nearly 18,000 subscribers — explains that not everyone who subscribes works as an agent, but many do and they come from all over the country. Marino happens to be a REALTOR®, too, at the third-generation company Whipple Real Estate in Canton, Ohio.
“We have a strict no self-promotion rule,” he says. “Most posts are anonymous.” But unlike Nextdoor, the REALTOR® corner of Reddit isn’t about lead generation so much as it is about institutional knowledge and professional connections.
“It’s about a sense of community where everyone can learn, even those that give advice,” says Mariano. “Most people come to the r/Realtors subreddit to ask questions, but they stay for the community and vast amounts of knowledge laid out constantly.”
Quora
Quora is a Q&A site — and a popular one, too, with more than 330 million monthly users. Users ask questions on hundreds of thousands of topics, and other users provide answers, along with their credentials. As a REALTOR®, you are an expert in everything from home buying and selling, to maintenance, to interior design, to local restaurants and nightlife, to bank loans — and you can contribute your expertise to a wide range of questions, establishing yourself as an authoritative and helpful resource.
REALTORS® can demonstrate their expertise and help people learn about the real estate market. Users also can find questions about topics relating to their neighborhoods, ZIP Codes and city. Quora answers also rank well on Google.
